Introduction This section contains information about design thinking that is underpinned by the Five Key Concepts in the form of IDL projects that have taken place in different settings.
You may want to take a look at each of them to get an overview, or you may want to focus on one in more detail. The main aim is to collect authentic examples to inform and inspire as you as you reflect on the connections and opportunities for implementation in Midmill School. Designing for Learning Projects: What are they?
For us (Andrew and Lynne), it has always been important that we continue to work on the frontline - with learners of different ages. One aspect of Single Steps Learning is providing training courses for educators, the other is working directly in schools and settings with children and young people.
Below is a screenshot taken from our main website - www.singlestepslearning.co.uk. It shows the component elements of our projects which have been 'in-person' up until March 2020. Our projects were intense and compressed into a 2-week period due to time available. However, when we were teaching in our own schools, the projects would take place over a longer period of time. It just became 'what we did' in classes. Now that you've engaged with the information in Element Three on Designing for Learning with Five Key Concepts, we wanted to give an idea of what this has looked like in reality for us.
We've chosen three of our recent projects as examples to help give a sense of what 'Designing for Learning' can look like and sound like within different age ranges, stages of development and situations. Avast! Big Mack Needs Help!: 4-5 year olds
From Here To There: 10-12 year olds
Get Out And About: A Project Focusing on Outdoor LearningThe remit for this project was to work alongside Primary 4, Primary 5, Primary 6 and Primary 7 to explore and support the development of outdoor learning which was underpinned by the Five Key Concepts. Our intention was to 'kick-start' the process in collaboration with the class teachers.

ZOOM Video Conference: Community Meet
We use video conferencing for a very specific purpose in our online training events. The asynchronous elements are mainly designed to give information, allowing the synchronous 'video meet' to focus on community, collaboration and interaction based on the content accumulated up until that point.
